wannaask.me is a nifty gadget that lets you ask questions on Facebook anonymously. It’s free, fun and can be amazingly informative for both long time friends and new acquaintances.
Facebook is probably the biggest social site on the Internet, or close to it. I don’t know the specific numbers or traffic data but it’s a household word and nearly everyone on the planet has some kind of presence on there, it seems.
It is, therefore, one of the biggest social pipelines to learn more things about the people in your friends list, as well as new people you may have just met. Facebook page URLs are even showing up on business cards these days, from salesmen to major entrepreneurs. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at one of the coolest Facebook tools I have seen to date.
Wannaask.me is a web site/app that will allow you to ask questions anonymously on Facebook. You also have the option to put your profile into the question, but it is entirely up to you. This means you can ask random questions and get random answers, or you can ask very specific questions and get answers without revealing who you are. This is, to me, what seems like an acceptable method of social espionage for modern communication styles. If you’ve ever wanted to know something about your friends, but were always hesitant to ask for whatever reason, wannaask.me can help and actually ask for you. As a rather obvious macro-example, you might ask “Do you think [Insert your name here] is attractive?” and ask it anonymously. This way, no one can be totally sure you are the one doing the asking. They will suspect, of course, but this is just one example, and in any case the answers you are going to get will still be valid. As another example, you may be planning a party and want to know what level of wildness is acceptable to the group you are inviting, you could ask things like “Have you/ would you ever [insert wild fun thing here]?” and find out what would make your bash a big bang.
The site/app itself is quick to install, as with any Facebook app and experienced users won’t notice any difference. It does ask the normal permissions to be able to access your Facebook account and post for you etc. but again, these are very standard and familiar things for any Facebook app or game. Once set up you will be able to create questions immediately, and distribute them to other users of the app. This does mean you will have to get your friends using the app, but given the average amount of app requests most people get on a daily basis it is liable to get lost in the shuffle so make sure to let them know, if you want to start getting answers immediately. Once they are part of your shared network on wannaask.me, any questions you create will be available to them to answer, and it’s totally up to you at the time of posting whether to reveal yourself as the author of the question.
Now, this app has no magical ability to get people to answer your questions, but the concept of asking and even answering anonymously makes many people more comfortable and it can be surprisingly therapeutic in a number of ways to go through and answer the available questions in your list. When first running it, you will get a short list of questions from wannaask.me as examples and you can answer them at your leisure. Once your friends have joined up, that’s when the fun begins and you can start learning everything you always wanted to know about your Facebook friends but were afraid to ask. Until next time, my friends.
