Switcher is a free ALT+Tab like application switcher for Windows Vista or Windows 7 in the vein of Expose for Mac. It provides three variations of visual display: tile view, dock view, and grid view (see examples of the first two in the screenshots above, respectively).
The program is invoked by a user-defined hotkey or via mouse movement (or a combination). It provides the unique ability to type in a keyword or a part of a keyword in order to filter the displayed options and hone in on the program or window that you are seeking. It will also number your windows such that you can quickly jump to your desired selection by pressing the corresponding number key on your keyboard. Continue reading ..

Google Chrome has been my favorite browser since I tried it last year. Absolutely love the speed, clean interface, and nice features. However, I still had to keep using my Firefox as well because of some of the plugins I used in Firefox.
Recently Google Chrome also started supported plugins (they call them extensions). I am quite surprised to see how many extensions have been created already, and many of them are really good.
Here are 4 Google Chrome Extensions that I find particularly useful. Try these out, and let us know what you think (all these are completely free):
- AdBlock for Google Chrome
- Google Mail Checker
- Aviary Screen Capture
- Chrome SEO Plugin.

KwiClick is an Addon for Firefox that simplifies multi-tasking and allows for some cool picture-in-picture style browsing. Ideally it makes your browsing more efficient, particularly if you’re not one to browse linearly. Often times you might be browsing along and need a word that you’re reading defined, want to know if there’s a trailer available on YouTube for this movie somebody is raving about, search Amazon for a book that a friend recommended over Twitter, or tons of other examples. That’s where Kwiclick comes in.

One of the issues that I have struggled with for a long time is the persistent slowness of this WordPress site. This is something I faced over the span of the past 2 years, during which period I used four different themes and four different hosting services, always with high hopes that the ’problem’ might be the particular theme I was using or that the remedy might take the form of a better hosting service.
But the problem would not go away; specifically, a consistently high CPU usage that was disproportionate to the amount of traffic my site got, and which became particularly problematic whenever I got a spike in traffic.
Finally, about a week ago I switched themes again, this time to a (rather excellent) theme entitled Suffusion, and as always hoping that somehow this would provide a boost to the performance issue. When invariably it did not my friend Andrey (aka Rarst of the Rarst.net blog) took it upon himself to go in and optimize my site, and he did a fantastic job. You can read all about what he did in his blog posting about how to optimize and speed up WordPress. Continue reading ..

Anyone who has every downloaded files from file hosting services such as Rapidshare or Megaupload is well familiar with the ritual “dance” involved in the process, which consists of waiting for on-screen counters to count-down then moving through multiple screens until at long last your download link becomes available. (Not to mention having to re-do the whole thing if you get distracted and don’t jump on the download link as soon as it appears).
If you’ve been in this situation then you’ll like this free Firefox extension. SkipScreen automates the process of advancing through the various pages preceeding the download screen, waits for the timer to count all the way down, automatically overcomes any captchas, then starts the download once it becomes available. All you need to do is browse to the initial download page; SkipScreen will do the rest. Continue reading ..

Windows Live SkyDrive is a service that gives you online storage for uploading files and sharing them with other people. It was renamed from Windows Live Folders in August 2007 launched in February 2008, and in December 2008 it got a bump in its storage cap, from 5GB to 25GB. It has been getting minor updates ever since, but wild rumors claim the per-file upload limit will soon be upped to 100MB (it’s currently at 50MB).
SD Explorer is a is a non-Microsoft tool that will integrate SkyDrive’s 50 gig of cloud storage with your desktop. It creates a virtual folder in “My Computer” that logs into the Skydrive services in the back end, but otherwise will let you perform file operations (copying, moving, deleting) from within Windows explorer, just as you would with any folder.
