BBox is a free program that can organize files and folders within a virtual environment, allowing you to group with your files and folders into categories and work with them without moving the actual files and folders from their locations on your hard drive.

Windows XP users may remember a nice little right-click-context-menu resident image resizing app from Microsoft called “Image Resizer Powertoy”. You may also remember that it was XP 32-bit specific, and that it did NOT work on Vista or Windows 7 or 64bit OS’s.
As it’s name suggests, Image Resizer PowerToy Clone is a clone of the aforementioned tool that works with XP, Vista, and Windows 7, 32 bit and 64 bit. Like it’s namesake, it is designed for quick resizing of images by selecting them in Windows explorer and right-clicking “Resize Pictures” in the context menu. Continue reading ..

HiddenMenu is a tiny, free launcher for apps, files, or folders that remains out of sight until it is activated by mousing over user-specified edges or corners of the screen.
This launcher is truly lightweight at about 3 megs or so in memory, is portable software, and supports dragging and dropping of entities from Windows explorer in order to add them to the list.
But there’s more: you can actually create multiple menus, such that mousing over the top right will display a menu containing files and shortcuts relating to project A that you may be working on, while mousing over the right side of the screen displays files and shortcuts for project B, etc.

I just updated my “Top Freeware” page, which was very (very) long overdue, and making it into a “Top 30″ listing in the process instead of the previous “Top 20″.
I’d like this page to become a go-to destination for readers who are seeking the best free software to install on their brand new PC’s. I am very frequently asked questions like “hey which free Antivirus should I install?” or “what free Torrent client do you recommend?”, and would like to be able to respond with “just go to my Top 30 page”.
So, therefore, check out my new and improved “Freeware Top 30” page. Better still, send it to all of your friends, colleagues, and acquaintances. Continue reading ..

MDownloader is a free software for downloading files from popular media hosting sites such as Rapidshare, Megaupload and more than a dozen others. It removes the need for human intervention when downloading files, allowing you to queue the files you want to download and forget about them; MDownloader will check for file availability, wait for server time delay periods to lapse, recognize and enter captchas automatically, and download the files for you. It also allows for download resuming for those file hosting services that support it.
MDownloader also offers the option to perform multiple simultaneous uploads to file hosting services. Continue reading ..

Buzz Folders free edition is a Windows enhancement that provides quick access to favorite and recently used folders in the Windows open/save file dialog.
It displays several tabs underneath the open/save dialog (see screenshot) that allow the user to quickly access recent folders for the active program, user-defined favorite folders for the active program (which the program calls ’stickies’), overall or global recently accessed folders, as well as a customizable tab that can filter or file list by extension.
Interesting to note is that Buzz Folders will let users specify favorite or sticky folder that are application specific, such that your favorite folders available for program A can be different from those you provide for program B. Continue reading ..

I love my iPhone, but when I sync it via iTunes I am annoyed by that software’s insistence on backing up my device every single time, a process that can take quite a long time. This is especially true when I simply want to sync an app or a podcast and quickly be on my way. Also, on my work laptop, I simply don’t have enough free space on my hard drive for a full backup, and if I don’t manually stop it it will simply take up all my free space and fail. Yes, it seems Apple’s programmers are not infallible and perfect after all.
So I set out to find some registry tweak or trick that would switch off automatic phone backup in iTunes, and found something that’s even better: iPhone backup switch is a simple app that will simply toggle iPhone backup off and back on in iTunes, with a single click. Continue reading ..
