RidNacs is a free disk space analysis tool that produces charts to visually represent the size that your files and folders occupy on your hard drive.
But the reason this software caught my attention, and the reason I am posting it here, is that RidNacs offers Windows Explorer right click integration, enabling you to right click any folder on-the-fly and get a size-chart analysis of it. Which is kind of cool and can be quite handy. Explorer integration Works on both 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows. Continue reading ..

RainMeter is undoubtedly one of the most powerful free desktop customization and widget engines on the Windows platform. It can place all sorts of interactive informational devices on your desktop, is highly customizable, supports multiple skins, is multi-monitor friendly, and offers a wide range of available widgets to choose from (e.g. calendars, resource monitors, feeds, wheather, email, favorite apps and folders widgets, pictures, and even applications such as uTorrent or VLC).

But RainMeter is unique compared to most widget engines in that it is clearly designed with desktop customization in mind. Widgets can be embedded so that they are part of the desktop, living "under" your Windows or icons and set so that they are interactive when you click or mouse over while simultaneously pressing "shift" on the keyboard.
The flip side to this is that RainMeter can feel like it was designed for geeks rather than normal users; setting up your desktop and various widgets can be labor intensive and unintuitive, and requires a bit of a learning curve. Continue reading ..

WizMouse is a free utility that enhances the middle-mouse scroll-wheel in a couple of interesting ways. It allows page scrolling via the scroll wheel when hovering over a window, even if it is out of focus, and without having to click into the window first to bring it into focus.
This can be very useful when looking at information in multiple windows, in that you can scroll down without having to interrupt whatever application you’re working in, and without having to have the main window you are working with covered by another that you want to scroll down. It sounds like such a little thing but the effect is quite nice in practice.
WizMouse can also enable mouse-wheel scrolling in applications that do not support it, or those where mouse-wheel support is glitchy and/or unreliable (if you’ve ever had to resort to the arrow keys to scroll down because the program would not respond to the mouse wheel, that would be an example). Have you ever wished that you could quickly see and/or access the files that you were working with last week, or the week (or the month) before that? Nemo Documents is a free file manager that can help; it organizes your files visually into a calendar style view similar to Outlook or Google Calendar. It also provides an array of options to filter the files being viewed (e.g. by file type, by folder, by user defined tags, or Gmail-style stars).
What’s more, Nemo Documents can connect to your Google account and place Google Calendar events on the same timeline/calendar view on your desktop, alongside your files. Continue reading ..

SlimDrivers is a free tool that scans your computer to identify missing drivers or drivers that are out of date and have updates available for download. It will let you download and install drivers "manually" (i.e. one by one) straight from the SlimDrivers interface.
In theory, up-to-date drivers are likely to make your PC run better, as newer drivers are in general better optimized and (hopefully) coexist better with other software and drivers on your PC. But SlimDrivers is also likely to fix situations whereby the driver used for device or hardware on your system is simply the wrong one (and causing problems).
This program worked beautifully on a laptop that had a clean install of Windows XP and needed all sorts of drivers downloaded. However, unless you have a specific problem with instability and/or with a particular (known or unknown) hardware component, I would not necessarily use it. I would also caution against using it out of mere curiosity, and the notion that it cannot hurt to update drivers. Continue reading ..

TaskUnifier is a free, feature-rich desktop-based task management software that syncs with cloud-based online task management service Toodledo, allowing you to manage your to-do and task lists on multiple devices and smartphones (including iPhone), or multiple computers.
The feature-rich program supports the GTD methodology (GTD, which stands for “getting things done”, is a popular method for task management that adheres to a few basic principles, foremost of which is classifying tasks together in lists). TaskUnifier will let you several kinds of lists; e.g. categories (called folders), contexts (e.g. on the phone”),
locations, and even “goals”. It also lets you apply user defined tags and provides a search function. Continue reading ..
