One of the benefits of Google Chrome is the Webstore, a place where users can find many free extensions, apps and themes that add more features to the browser. Extensions are small programs created by Google as well as external developers that modify and enhance the functionality of the Chrome browser using the standard web technologies HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. The two most popular extensions listed in the Webstore are “AdBlock” and “Adblock Plus” – but which one of the two is the better one?
This post will explore the differences between the two ad blocking extensions.
[Editor’s note: this review was written by Tom from chrome-plugins.org, a non-profit project that features reviews of extensions, apps and themes for the Google Chrome browser.] Continue reading ..

PDF Virtual printers are a convenient way of creating PDF files. These programs can save any kind of printable document as a PDF file; all you need to do is to select ‘print’ from your favorite program, then select the virtual PDF printer and get a PDF file.
There are many excellent free virtual printers. We have tested 15 of these and selected 10 of them to evaluate and compare. These (in alphabetic order) are: Bullzip PDF Printer, doPDF, Doro PDF Writer, PDF Printer (PdfSvg), PDF reDirect, PDF24 Creator, PDFCreator, Perfect PDF 7 Master, Print2PDF Free and qvPDF.
The virtual printers that we tried but decided to exclude from the comparison were Bolt PDF Printer, CutePDF Writer, ImagePrinter, pdf995, PDFlite and Primo PDF, mainly because they were inferior by functionality, configurability, or ease of use. Some (e.g. Primo PDF and CutePDF) were removed from the list for privacy considerations as they contain adware/spyware components.

Ever wished you could determine the order in which your items are loaded on startup, or the priority, or to set specific time delays before some programs launch, or specify the window state upon launch (e.g. minimized, hidden), or to load some items only when the PC is idle, etc.
Oolauncher is a free program that can do all of this and more. It provides a degree of flexibility that is unusual for most startup managers. It does this by importing all of your start programs and removing them from their original position, allowing itself full control to manage your start programs precisely the way you want it to.

My friend Imad and I recently created “MoneyConfidence”, a site whose mission is to provide smart and thoughtful advice about managing money.
It is still in it’s infancy but already contains a not-insignificant amount of content. We hope it will grow much larger and that we can provide a brand of thoughtful/useful content that will be useful (and entertaining) to many people out there.
I am really excited about the name: a dictionary URL that is precisely the sort of thing we wanted, and that, to our surprise, was not taken when we registered it (took us about 2 hours of experimenting with various names and ideas though, before we found it). Continue reading ..
