SKTimeStamp: add a timestamp tab to file/properties

SKTimeStamp ScreenshotIf you’ve ever found the need to manage your files’ time stamps then you will probably like this free Windows Explorer extension: SKTimeStamp adds a tab in file/properties that displays the file’s timestamps (date created, last modified, and last accessed) and lets you edit them on the spot.

This software also works for batch file timestamp editing. All you have to do is select a number of files, right-click properties then the TimeStamps tab, and edit the values for all selected files simultaneously. Continue reading ..

Physion: create your own virtual physical world

Physion Screenshot

Imagine that you could create any object you want by the flick of a mouse, many different kinds of objects, in fact, of various shapes, colors, and  properties, and that you could then watch these objects interact with each other and the virtual world around them exactly as you would expect them to interact in the physical world. This, in a nutshell, is what this software will let you do.

Physion is a free 2D Physics simulation software. It can be used to easily create a wide range of interactive physics simulations and educational experiments. Teachers may find it particularly useful since it can be used as a virtual physics laboratory through which they can demonstrate basic physics concepts in the classroom. Physion may also be useful to game developers since they can use it as simple level editor for their platform games. Continue reading ..

Martview: combines a stylish ebook reader with an app-store style ebook sharing portal

Martview Screenshot 1Martview Screenshot 3 - download

Martview is a free ebook viewer for PDFs, CBZ/CBR and it’s own MART format that emphasizes a book-like reading experience complete with virtual page flipping. In addition to the “flipping view”, it also offers “horizontal slide” and “vertical slide” views; the latter being my favorite of the three. It is also designed to work with touchscreen devices (available for Windows and iPad).

Interestingly, Martview also supports an app-store like interface for downloading free ebooks. Users are able to download, upload and share ebooks. To find an ebook, you can use a search box or navigate the categories in the left sidebar, and/or simply browse the many pages containing hundreds of book cover thumbnails of box. Titles run the gamut from novels to tutorials, but graphic novels, comics, and manga as well as random glossy magazines from years past seem to be overly represented. The software does not seem to take copyright considerations too seriously, relegating responsibility for the content to the users. Continue reading ..

iCall: make free, ad-supported phone calls in the US and Canada, right from your desktop or device

iCall Screenshot1Would you like to dial any number in the US or Canada from anywhere and talk absolutely free? Would you like a way to be reached at your desktop anywhere in the world via a regular (US) phone call?

Now you can. The free version of iCall will let you dial any number right from the desktop and speak, Skype-style, via your computer’s built in Mic and speakers. iCall is available for Windows, as a web app, and for iPhone/iPad.

But there is a catch: iCall is ad supported; you will have to listen to a brief 30 second ad before you can make your call. Each call, moreover, can last up to 4:30 minutes before you have to re-dial (and listen to another ad), which is not an insignificant amount of time. The free version also does not afford you the luxury of having your own number, although people are able to call you by calling a centralized number and entering your iCall extension. iCall also provides voice messaging, so you know who called you while you were offline. Far Manager: powerful, old-school file and archive manager

Orthodox file managers are back with a vengeance! This was my first thought when I saw the screenshots of Far Manager. 90% pure interface of Norton Commander from the eighties/nineties of the last century. But despite the freaky look Far Manager is one of the best free Windows file managers.

Norton Commander ver 5.5

Running Far Manager – file and archive manager probably brings nostalgic memories to everybody who has used Norton Commander. The same blue interface with the DOS “box characters”. Press Alt-Enter to go fullscreen and take a tour to the 1990-s! All the same keyboard shortcuts work – F5 Copy, F9 Menu, F10 Quit etc. Like Norton Commander running in DOS virtual machine – that could be the first impression.

MachStudio Pro 2: realtime 3D graphics rendering, now 100% free

Audi_red

MachStudio Pro 2 is a powerful 3D visualization package that had hitherto cost $4000 but recently been released to the public absolutely free. Excellent news for anyone interested in architectural 3D graphics rendering or 3D animation.

This software emphasizes real-time graphics processing that leverage the horsepower of powerful graphics GPU’s (a 1 GB DirectX 11 compliant video card is the minimum requirement to run it). It promises to reduce render times times that would have taken days or hours to minutes or seconds, freeing the user to focus on the creative process itself; working with their graphics exactly as they would appear in the final output.
