There are quite a few programs and web services that can be really useful to Kindle owners. This post compiles 17 of these that every Kindle user should know about, ranging from eBook conversion programs to services that can broadcast your favorite websites to your Kindle.
Note that many of the tools listed here aren’t strictly Kindle specific, but can be very useful to anyone who has a Kindle or any other eBook reading device, such as PDF cropping tools and eBook conversion apps, etc.
Areas covered include ‘eBook Reading Tools’, ‘General eBook Conversion’ , ‘PDF to Kindle Conversion’, ‘Organizing files on your Kindle’, and ‘Sending web content to your Kindle’. Continue reading ..

OdoPlus and MousePath are two free applications that run in the background and can tell you a bit more about your mousing activity during your session. What good does that information do for you exactly? Not a whole lot. However, it can be informative if you’re testing out an interface or create some pretty art based on a day’s work.

Want free online storage? Dropbox will give you a free 2GB, Sugarsync will give you 5GB, but if you want something more, to the tune of say … 21GB, then check out ZenOK.
ZenOK is a cloud storage service that is soon to be launched. No, I have not tried it yet and this is not a review, but it is possible to request an invitation right now to be amongst the first to try the free service; if, that is, you are prepared to post a tweet about the service on your Twitter account.
ZenOK will support a local client for Windows, Apple OSX, and Linux, and will provide the ability to mirror local folders. It will also support Android, iOS, and Blackberry devices. Continue reading ..

Everyone is familiar with the ad clips that are a mainstay of video/news services such as Hulu or NBC, that are shown before the actual programming. Typically 20 or 30 seconds in duration, these are no major nuisance in small doses; except with more and more people increasingly consuming TV programming, news and video on the internet, these 20 or 30 seconds can add up into a large chunk of time (and bandwidth). Wouldn’t it be great if there were a browser plugin that removed introductory ads from videos?
AdBlock Video is precisely such an extension. Available for Firefox (alas no Chrome version as of this writing), this free plugin will typically allow the first ad that the video service will display, but manage to circumvent every ad thereafter within the same browsing session. Continue reading ..

If you have a DVD you want to copy or rip to your hard disk, the free BDLot DVD ISO Master just might be the easiest way to go about doing it. This software will rip your DVD to the hard disk in the form of an ISO file, and will allow you to burn the file back to a physical DVD if you choose to do so. The overall result: a quick and highly streamlined way to create copies of your DVDs, or to convert your DVD collection to ISO files that you can manage on your hard drive.
Note that this software can remove any copy protections and/or region protection (commonly found on commercial DVD’s), but can also be used on normal, non copy protected DVDs. Continue reading ..

Ever wished you could manage your bookmarks on your desktop as files rather than within any particular browser you may be using? Ever wish you could have these bookmarks be browser independent, rather than associated with specific browsers, and that you could organize these within a browser independent folder structure?
If so, then HTMtied is for you. This free software can create browser independent bookmarks from URLs captured in the clipboard, and can also convert URL files from Internet Explorer and Firefox to the same. Continue reading ..

What if I told you that you could install an app that gave you unlimited, beautiful, images downloaded and shuffled on your desktop automatically, and that all you had to do was enjoy and, on occasion, skip an image that perhaps didn’t quite strike your fancy?

That program in question is free and it is called Flickr Wallpaper Rotator. It works remarkably well to display some really remarkable, high quality wallpaper images. Some are duds, of course, and some don’t really work as wallpaper as such; but approximately half, in my experience, are simply terrific. See some examples above of wallpapers that it downloaded that I really liked. Continue reading ..
