Linux Live USB Creator is a free, open source program that installs any .ISO file to a bootable USB drive. It offers built in support for a large number of Live CD tools, including a wide range of Linux distros (200+) and a wide variety of other OS’s and other tools. It will even optionally download your desired LiveCD for you on-the-fly to ensure the latest versions.
Linux Live USB Creator supports ‘persistence’, an option whereby users can save modifications and data on the USB after reboot, allowing for a true computer-on-a-stick experience. But what sets this software apart from others, such as previously mentioned UNetbootin, is (a) it’s remarkable speed, and (b) virtualization, whereby Linux Live USB Creator will create a virtual Linux that can be run from the USB within Windows without rebooting. To do this it will download and use the latest version of Virtualbox, without any user involvement whatever. Continue reading ..

0 A.D. is a real time strategy (RTS) game produced by Wildfire Games. Currently in it’s Alpha testing stages, this game is shaping up to be one of the best freeware RTS games available. There have been many other games in the RTS realm that have been released mas freeware but few of them have offered the same high quality as 0 A.D.’s Alpha release.
The Wildfire website describes 0 A.D.’s premise as follows: “As the military leader of an ancient civilization, you must gather the resources you need to raise a military force capable of dominating your enemies.” That statement gives an idea of the game’s overall goals but doesn’t really touch on the key features and attractions. I’ve always been a big fan of Pandora, but let’s face it; users now have many more free listening options that when Pandora first started. Which is probably why Pandora just removed the listening limit for the free service; quote “we’ve removed the listening limit for Pandora. You can now listen to Pandora as much as you’d like for free”.
This is great news, because like I said, I have a soft spot for Pandora. I will even go on record in saying that I love the service, which allows you to create your own custom radio stations based on the artists/bands you like. Pandora will take that information and stream music by other artists which it thinks you will like. You can then thumbs up/thumbs down the songs that it plays to fine tune the algorithm for better future selections. Continue reading ..

It seems like there are hundreds of different Instant Messenger (IM) services out there these days, which can make finding the right one for you seem a bit daunting. The key is breaking down what the various ones have to offer, and matching them with your own needs.
The right IM program for you will depend largely on how you communicate day to day with others, although the biggest and most important question just may be which one are your friends using? I’ve put together a short lineup of what I feel are the most prominent and the ones that have the most to offer: Yahoo! Messenger, GoogleTalk, and Skype. Continue reading ..

In today’s modern economy, no one wants to spend a dime more than they have to, and this is doubly true for those of us supporting a family. I have two children myself, and protecting them is the highest priority. Today’s average teenager has somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 or more social networking contacts, which means that the parent saying, “don’t talk to strangers” doesn’t have the impact it once did. Moreover, many parents admit to being baffled or at least ignorant as to what their kids spend most of their time online doing. Protecting our children while they are on the computer is just as important as protecting them in any other place, so why not do it for free?
Qustodio (pronounced Cust-oh-dee-oh) is a free program that allows you to protect and monitor your children online. You can see how they spend their internet time, set limits for them to be online, and protect them from the various online dangers like predators, un-suitable content, and other cyber-hazards.
