MP3 Diags is a free program that can scan your audio library for problems (including issues with invalid streams, low quality issues, incomplete tags, audio normalization, and others) and provides the ability to fix these. It includes an audio tag editor that can pull track data from MusicBrainz and Discogs, and can use MP3Gain from within the MP3Diags interface to perform audio normalization. Note, however, that this program is not geared for users looking for a 1-click fix, but rather for users with some technical background. MP3 Diags is multiplatform (Windows/Linux)
JumpTo is a free menu-based launcher that provides access to favorite folders, files, apps, or URLs in the form of a hotkey-enabled context menu. It can be accessed on the fly at any time on the desktop or via the system tray icon. In addition it provides on-the-fly note taking functionality as well as a few other functions such as hiding and showing windows, stripping formatting from the clipboard, and others.
DragTargets is a free app designed to make it easy to drag and drop your files into frequently used folders. Shortcuts to favorite folders (including folders on external drives) can be placed as buttons on a semi-transparent floating widget, and can be used to quickly move or copy files or access these folders.
Songr is a free desktop app that can find downloadable MP3s from multiple sources on the internet. In addition, it allows for a “lyrics search” option that can identify and download songs based on parts of lyrics that a you might remember. It also can download YouTube videos or alternately only the audio part of a YouTube video as MP3.
The concept behind this free program is to "automate repetitive tasks". It presents a wide range of functions involving text insertion and automation, launching apps or URLs, manipulating windows on the desktop, grabbing screenshots, and optimizing programs in memory. You can launch functions via keyboard shortcuts or in many cases from the program’s icon in the system tray.
VistaSwitcher is a free application switcher/Alt+Tab replacement for (despite the name) Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. It features a slick interface, application preview thumbnails, and the ability to perform operations such as minimizing, maximizing and closing windows or apps from the VistaSwitcher interface.
Seadragon.com from Microsoft Labs is a free web service designed to view, zoom, pan-into, and share large images on the internet without degrading them or otherwise making them smaller.
Dropresize creates a special folder on your machine such that any images placed in this folder are automatically resized as per a predefined height or width and quality setting. This free program is designed for quickly resizing images for the purposes of posting on the internet.

Changedetection.com is a free web service that monitors website(s) you want for changes and sends you email notifications when they occur. Changes are highlighted on the page and a history of changes is kept and is accessible for future reference.

PhotoJoy is a free app that uses your own photo collection to create dynamic
desktop wallpaper, screensavers, and desktop widgets.
TweetMyPC is a free Twitter application that can shut down your PC remotely and/or perform a range of commands as soon as you send it a tweet. Other commands include restarting your PC, downloading stuff to your PC, and even sending files to you from your PC – all based on your tweets. TweetMyPC v2.0 is multiplatform (Windows/Mac).

This posting will describe how to change your default system browser on Windows XP to a portable version of Mozilla Firefox using a free program called DefaultBrowser, doing so reversibly and without installing the non portable version. The same process described here could be used to change your default browser to any portable (or non portable) browser.
