DocShield is a program that runs in the background and monitors files and folders that you specify for changes. It will create compressed snapshots of your files whenever it detects any changes, enabling you to retrieve your files in case of data loss, and providing a retrievable version history of your files and/or data.

RecentFilesView is a small, no install freeware program that can retrieve and save the list of the most recently accessed files.

Filebox Extender is a free windows explorer extension that adds a number of buttons on the top right of open windows next to the minimize, maximize and close buttons, including a “stay on top” pushpin button, a window roll-up button that hides all but the title bar of a window, a favorites folder button, and a recent folders button. Filebox Extender provides these functions in open folder and application windows, in open/save dialogs and in the system tray.

AnyClient is a free file transfer client that is available both as a web service that can be accessed from any internet enabled computer and as a standalone program you can install locally on your machine. Supports FTP, FTPS, SFTP and WebDAV.

InfoTag Magic is a useful shell extension that provides informational tooltips on mouse-over for audio files (MP3, WMA, APE, and Ogg Vorbis), quick tooltip previews for text files (TXT, INI, LOG, BAT, DIZ, BAK, and QUE, tooltip information on the properties of windows shortcuts, and tooltip version information for EXE, DLL, and OCX files.

Docx2Rtf is a free program that can convert .DOCX and .DOTX (Word 2007 MS Word formats) as well as SXW and .ODT (OpenOffice) into the universal .RTF format that can be read and edited by any Word Processor. It also offers the ability to convert documents to .PDF and can open, view, and print all the above mentioned formats as well as PalmOS Database Documents (*.PDF) and Aportis (*.PRC) files.

Freeware program StyleFolder can perform a handful of interesting folder customizations straight from the Windows right-click context menu, including changing the folder’s icon, using an image as folder background, and changing the font color used inside the folder. All customizations are saved into the folder itself and are preserved across PCs or over the network.

Tag2find is a memory-resident program that can apply tags to all of your local files. It can be optionally accessed from the right click context menu, a search box within the taskbar or the IE toolbar, or a floating searchbar (tagbar) that can be launched from the tray menu and moved around the desktop. Currently Tag2find supports NTFS file systems only, and is free for personal use.

On the NTFS file system, freeware program “Link Shell Extension” provides you with the ability to create clones (called hard links) of your files and folders straight from the context menu.
