Any Audio Converter

Any Audio Converter is a freeware program that can convert a wide range of audio files into MP3, WMA, ACC, or OGG audio format.

It can also demux (extract) audio tracks from most video files, including FLV and DVD video VOB files, and provides a preview screen where you can set beginning and end points for audio extraction from a video.

While you can perform audio format conversions another using a number of applications (e.g. a CD ripper such as BonkEnc, an audio player such as Mediamonkey, or even the context-menu based DMSI), there are a number of reasons why you should download and use Any Audio Converter, as follows:

  • Converts audio files and demuxes video files as well.
  • Broad range of supported input formats (although some audio formats are conspicuously absent): MP3, WMA, WAV, WMV, ASF, VOB, MPG, DV, M1V, M2V, MOV, MPEG-4, 3GP, RM, RMVB and FLV. Supported output formats: MP3, WMA, AAC and OGG. Not supported: FLAC, OGG input, APE, M4A/M4B, (Itunes formats).
  • Supports FLV; (for all of you downloading tracks from music sharing sites in FLV format and not knowing what to do with them, Any Audio Converter is what you need).
  • Converts files in batches (including videos).
  • Allows you to set output quality in terms of bitrate, sample rate, and mono vs. stereo channels. Curiously, it does not support variable bit rate processing.
  • Video preview screen allows for setting beginning and ending point for audio demuxing. You can do this individually for each video file even when processing multiple video files.
  • Speed: although this is my subjective impression, it does seem to offers excellent conversion performance.
  • Displays the audio bitrate for input files, which is excellent information to know when you are converting from a video file or from FLV.

Wish list (or how this program can be even better):

  • Support for 160 output bitrate (for some reason it jumps straight from 128 to 190 bitrate in the settings).
  • Support for FLAC format for both input/output, OGG for input, APE, input/output, and M4A/M4B.

The verdict: this is a great program to have in your audio file processing toolbox; it does exactly what it claims to do quite well, and is 100% free.

Compatibility: Windows 2000, XP, Vista.

    great for converting but it looses the mp3 id tags ID3v1 and ID3v2 when the file is converted…all you have is the file name and extension…you’ll have to add the tag with a tag editor if you want the song tag back.

    I accidentally happened upon this program to convert M4A files to MP3s. I tried a couple of other programs but the quality was very poor. any-audio-converter did a superb job, fast and so far accurate. Using this program, after converting M4Ps to M4As I have finally freed my downloaded Itunes songs. It WILL convert M4As(unprotected of course) to MP3s, not sure if it works with Itunes audiobooks yet. I did a search for this app and stumbled upon your site, what an unsuspected surprise! Thanks for sharing these freeware Gems with us.

    I wanted this for extracting sound tracks from videos. Very easy to use. Converts most audio/video formats to WMA and MP3 files with good compression so converted files are small.
    I wish this software had the capability to convert files to WAV format also, and it would be perfect!
    Only problem is the Player did not work correctly, but I use Windows Media Player so this is not a problem for me.

    Hey, sami, do you see, up above the comments section, where it says “Compatibility: Windows 2000, XP, Vista.”? Do you see the line right below that, which reads, “Go to the program home page to get the latest version (approx 13.14 megs).”?

    The words “program home page” in that line are a hyperlink to the program’s home page, on which sits a very big blue button, labelled “Download Now!”

    Over all i think the program was really great yes,

    but, I started to notice that for some reason after downloading this program i started to have more problems w/ my computer than I had ever had in the entire time that I’ve ever owned it, which has been for over a year. so… I mean I don’t know if thats a coincidence or what but, I’ll let you be the judge if you have the same problems i would really appreciate it if you would let me know thanks!

    This not only converts between various audio formats(upping the quality where needed), but you can also change already ripped music videos/files(maybe with low quality audio) into a heightened audio file that can become a CD for your car. You can also enhance the video output file of a file that you input into the program. This can be very useful if you have a lot of music videos on DVD; for some reason, many of these had low quality audio. In summary, it does anything imaginable as far as audio enhancement goes(even when the audio in video); plus, it gives you a video with heightened audio in return! It’s your one-stop audio tuneup meets foreplay for video editing! For video editing, you need a video enhancer; you need this program(free) plus one that also(if needed)takes the noise out; and/or you need a video authoring program. That’s it! Sometimes, you can find all these things in one program, but you also have to pay for it and it probably makes it harder to use. You may have to adjust the sound settings/delete files until you get a feel for it, but you will get it as it is a breeze to use.
