CalcuTray: get quick access to a calculator and calculation history, right in your system tray

CalcuTray Screenshot1There are two kinds of PC users in the world: those who never use their PC’s calculator, and those who do. If you’re in the latter group, you may have occasionally wondered why the calculator tool in Windows is so hard to access, being buried so deep in the start menu.

Enter: CalcuTray, a free calculator that can be accessed right in the system tray menu, and one that can process entire strings of calculations (e.g.  (1024/4)*.786) rather than the typical time consuming calculator interface. It even retains a history of calculations, easily accessed by right clicking the system tray icon.

Other features:

  • Stores your history of calculations, accessed by right clicking the tray and selecting ‘history’ (see screenshot to the right).
  • Use • + – * / ( )
  • Calculate Pi up to 28 places

The verdict: such a simple yet potentially useful idea. It is tiny with a very light footprint (approx. 6 or 7 megs in memory). I am surprised I hadn’t seen something like this earlier.

Version tested: V1.4.2

Compatibility: WinAll. Requires MS .NET Framework 4.0

Go to the program home page to download the latest version (approx. 1.33 megs).

I cant agree that its hard to access it, now with windows 7 you only need to press the win key and type calc. I used this method for ages (back in xp just use ctrl+r instead)..
But will try this anyway, just because the history function :)
