PDF X-Change Viewer has a tabbed interface which still makes it the best for my use style. It also has a portable version which is handy too.

Hooray! Your RSS feed works again!

Interesting PDF reader. One thing I would like to know is how fast this reader is. Because Adobe is really sloooooooooow, it is interesting to look at somewhat faster freeware alternatives. I use foxit reader which is okay, though it doesn’t offer all the features of Nuance.

Question #5: Does it support the typewriter tool for filling out application forms that do not contain PDF forms (like PDF X-Change Viewer does)?

Nuance PDF Reader looks interesting, but it’ll have to be good for me to switch from PDF X-Change Viewer. Re the latter – you can hide the greyed-out professional features in tool-bars in Preferences > Registration.

Very nice looking program, but X-Change Viewer has (for me) a major advantage over it in that it remembers where you stopped reading the last time, which Nuance doesn’t seem to support. So for now I’d rather stick with X-Change.

Nuance installs Intellishield’s Software Manager by default. I thought this thing had died years ago but apparently not. It will NEVER stop nagging you to purchase the company’s other products and it requires special software to remove.

Other than that, it is fine.

Color me annoyed. This isn’t actual malware since it doesn’t do anything malicious. But it is nagware, and the company has deliberately chosen a nag method that requires some degree of effort to remove. Software Manager doesn’t hide itself in any of the usual startup locations.

If you are today looking for an OCR tool compatible with any platforms like Windows, Linux and Mac, a site that can do OCR for you online may attract you: Free OCR. This online application allows transforming the content of an image file to text format. Though other output formats like MS Word is not supported yet, the result looks good to me.
