    It needs NET.framework

this is a GREAT program and hell i’m even willing to overlook the framework requirement i like it so much. However i do agree with your first wishlist item.

How does it compare to/with Copernic Desktop Search – Home edition?
I’m a writer using their (free) version solely because — apparently — it was/is the only application that would search OpenOffice file contents, MS search stops right there or I missed something and slept under a rock too long.
I am very pleased with Copernic. It doesn’t cost a dime, indexes on demand, searches its index though… but fast and silent (upgrade thing) during operations.
A knee way, I’ll try this babe and see what’s what in the foot print, CPU usage, etc., compared to Copernic.
Anyone knows better than me before I take the plunge?

I tested FileSeek version 1.8.3 downloaded a few minutes ago. didn’t have the time to be bothered with an update box, I’m telling you.

It couldn’t find ‘maison’ nor ‘piñata’!
It couldn’t show ODT contents in plain English, French, Spanish or German.

I tried a simpler American English search: ‘are’ with no case sensitive, no special query. It returned 5 documents out of over 90. It displayed garbage text around (only) one (the first?) found occurrence.

    Maybe I missed something.

Oh… is it because I’m using the Emerge shell?

No, I don’t think so: Copernic found a zillion occurrences of ‘are’ (duh!) alone or part of a word in any language, it displayed its findings in Roman characters for each result iteration in the flick of an eyelash — wow, am I in the mood?

OK, dudes and dudettes, it’s my time for a drink, and then to go to bed. Surf’s up!

P.S. Someone tells me what I did wrong, please.

re-P.S. I repeat, searches were done only on OpenOffice files, and FileSeek failed.

    ( sorry for my blah-blah-blah, Samer )
    ( how are you? )

At last! I turned off the indexer service as soon as I got Win7 public beta but have been missing the search in folder & file contents. Finally back to XP!

    This made my day!

    @Samer

I wasn’t searching filenames, I was searching file contents — OpenOffice ODT files only — to compare to Copernic search, which I still prefer.

Absolutely awesome. So many programs try to load up on “features” and turn into hideous abominations that “help” you to do everything in the world (loaded with FREE OFFERS and special ways to SEARCH YOUR EMAILS AND FRIDGE) – except lack the ability to do the very thing that you actually wanted. This did exactly what I wanted – no more, no less. (And it was free.)

The first wishlist item isn’t something I’d turn down, but my search went fast enough anyways and searching contents of files was was specifically what I was looking for, so I’m happy.
