@ Tech Adam — I use Shareaholic, its an add-on for Firefox. Allows to instantly share current tab with any of a whole slew of sites, incl FB, Myspace, Stumbleupon, Digg, Blogger, etc etc. Enjoy.

As a teacher I tend to look at apps for their use in that arena. Two seem most promising: Dexpot will allow me to create a student desktop on the teacher computer, which students use frequently. I could have used Xentient THumbnails just this past week, when students were searching folders for their images. Visual cues are very helpful!

@Zonson: you may view the site that way, but I for one don’t have the time to find and review all the freeware on my own and am thankful for the “novel” – especially since I always find at least one app I can use and/or recommend.

Are you familiar with open source software? Some of the items on the list are infact open source, which means ANYBODY can go in and read the code. That also means there is no chance for malicious code to be entered.

Sure Microsoft developed a platform that is dynamic, but adding to that platform is key.
Enhancing a system is a tricky thing. Yes, you have to be careful as in what you install, since there are malware out there that is only out to destroy and corrupt, but this is where research and a testing platform, (some people just use a simple virtual environment, sandbox if you may), to test out new software.

With enough precautions and research, you are safe.
Free software today is as good, if not even better in some cases, than paid software.
You just need to weed out the junk.

@On topic: Excellent list. There were a couple of items that I found useful. Only drawback that I could see was that just a handful offered a “portable” version.

Guys,

Microsoft is much smart people since they are the pioneer of the computer age.
They made an incredible innovation of computer graphics so that even an illiterate fellow can operate the computer. People who did not know how to write their name in English, were not able talk in any other language other then their state language , are now working on computer and earning their daily bread and butter, in gulf countries especially.

Please do not teach ‘ Microsoft ‘ what to do or what not to.

Be careful of such rubbish extra softwares which will surely spoil , corrupt or can cause permanently damage your operating system

Vendors of such FREE Software can create worms or viruses in the computer and do ” BLUE THEFT ” of your system and hack your confidential personal information data.

Why did OSD Mute make this list? It’s completely redundant; the volume icon changes when the computer is muted.
