Hi Carbonize,

Thanks a lot for this post on PSPad and its “pro’s” and “con’s” for users. I’m really more of a self-taught Web Design “enthusiast” than a full-fledged “Webmaster” or “Web Developer” but have been creating dynamic websites by hand, from scratch, since the mid to late 1990′s, on and off. And I’ve pretty much just used Notepad, along with Wordpad and/or MS Word (i.e., for search and replace, spell checking, etc.), for writing code the whole time.

But I recently partnered up with my brother and cousin to form an Internet-based publishing company, and even though I’ve evolved to using WordPress as a CMS, which is great, I have found myself writing a lot more code lately, when customizing WP themes. And Notepad and/or Wordpad really don’t give me all the things that I need to make my work easier form a design standpoint.

So I started looking for an alternative this morning and read several other articles and reviews, even Wikipedia, before I found yours, and I had narrowed it down to either PSPad or RJ TextEd but still needed more data, which led me to your article via Google. While the other resources were useful and informative, they did not “seal the deal” for me like yours did. And I just wanted to personally say “Thank you” for that. I have tried RJTextEd several times but it is lacking several things that PSPad has that I use frequently. Also the settings for it’s PHP syntax highlighting are a it weird to understand. I have spoken to the maker of RJTextEd several times mainly to fix bugs. I do admit that RJTextEd does have some nice features such as the built in file explorer and the guy also wrote the text editor compononent himself.

I switched to Rj TextEd.
Find it much better and cleaner.
Also the syntax highlight is much more professional.

Stewart, have you checked Rj Texted the last months?
I used also PSP and VIM before
The author added so much stuff to Rj Texted.

PSPad is updated frequently just not as final releases. Check out the developer section of the forum.

Used this program exclusively for over a year but eventually switched over to Notepad++ due to consistent crashing and slowness. Note that I was working with multiple extremely long text files (100k).

PSPad also isn’t updated nearly as frequently as many other similar software titles, including Notepad++ and Notetab.

Its been my editor of choice now for the last 2 years. There are many great editors out there and you have to find the right one for you. As soon as I started using PS Pad I knew it was the one for me. It also has great support and is constantly being updated. Highly recommended!!

I have tried many free text editors (Notepad++, etc), but always went back to PSPad. Excellent program.

Very nice application here. The features that I really appreciate is the HEX editor, which is somewhat useful for developers and of course its built-in FTP client. Thanks.
