[...] The verdict: the closest thing I have to a criticism is that in order to use PDFTools you need to know ahead of time exactly the pages or page ranges you want to edit (i.e you will need to inspect your PDF’s using a PDF reader first). This is undoubtedly not a big issue given that PDFTools does not purport to be a reader (and offers so much powerful functionality for free), but I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will see a free visually-based PDF editing swiss-army knife style tool at some point (in the style of PDF Split and Merge).
I have split and merged many pdf's for work purposes and have in the past tried Adolix pdf splitter and merger and gios pdf splitter and merger. Gios was the better of the two and has until now been my preferred program. However Gios always had trouble merging a scanned pdf with a pdf created from a word document, a major drawback. Thankfully PDF Split and Merge 2.0 seems to have resolved this. I have used the aplha version with no issues so far. So I really like it.

Funny -- I happen to have tried this just yesterday, and on my W7 beta x64 machine it simply would not run. I'm rather new to the 64-bits game, but it's more than annoying that most application run without any problems while (preferably the more interesting ones, of course :-) some just don't work... Seems to be an intersting app, though.
