I was using FastPreview that I discovered not so long ago, but I switched to XnView Shell Extension when I read your article. If my memory is good, it’s a near perfect copy of the defunct PicaView.

ContView 1.41 (NOT Contextviewer Pro) does this AND does text AND works with Susie plugins, it’s available from http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~schezo/ – just scroll down. If you know Japanese, all the better. And OAlexander? Lighten up, maaan.

Does anybody really think I need something that slows down the popping up of my right clicks any further? I don’t think so. A half-way decent file manager takes care for producing a thumbnail on mouseover. Directory Opus and PowerDesk do, and I don’t care if they are freeware or not. That’s a standard! Get a file manager that does it, and not a bloated, memory consuming slowcoach like xnView.

Not exactly apples to oranges, but the freebie, “Jing” @ http://jingproject.com does have the biggie apparently not in XnView: a two click snapshot of whatever you want on the screen.

You can then “share” it to a web server; provide the link to the clipboard for transport via Input Director (another freebie)to any networked PC, and sending the link via your IM, email.

If you uncheck ‘open with XnView’ in the options menu, it opens with your default viewer when clicked – at least IrfanView works here.

This is awesome! I have been looking for something like this for quick use inside of my fav file manager, Total Commander, for some time. I used to use a shareware program called Picaview (which is no longer supported, sadly enough), but this Xnview shell extension utility beats Picaview hands-down!

Me, too. Agreed it would be nice to have a launcher as part of the extension. XnView doesn’t have it either. One of the truly wonderful capabilities of XnView is 90-degree lossless rotation of JPEGs. XnView and its extension are fantastic.

I’ve been using XnView Shell Extension for months and found it to be very practical and reliable (XP x86/x64).
