I totally agree with Bolchy. I think Moby is very generous in giving for free original music for our projects (but with the condition of creating something different, original, experimental, and of course non-commercial).

I requested 5 songs from mobygratis and after about 2-3 weeks of waiting I got 5 emails back saying my requests had been approved. And that was a week ago. I did notice though that the “5 day reply” thing has been removed from the site…

Mind you I’m not exactly working on a “cute” home video, I’m doing a 15 minute short film for my final project, so my synopsis was pretty detailed.

My only logical answer is that perhaps Moby (more likely site administrators) want to support independent short films rather than home videos?

Bedfords, same here. Not been as long but it’s been long enough (past 5 days they quote) to start to be ‘concerned’ about whether MobyGratis is on a permanent holiday. Did you ever get a reply or no?

I requested a license to use a couple of tracks for a personal, family, home video with no possible commercial value. I never received a response. Everytime I check the Mobygratis website, it just shows “pending”. No email address is provided to contact for more information. It has been almost two weeks.

This is just a marketing ploy. You give Moby all your personal information and then he turns down your request for music (but he keeps all your info). I just wanted to make a cute video with my kids and he turned me down flat. What kind of monster is he?

Samer, I was mostly joking. My main criticism is the ‘blind’ registration. That is, I’m forced to register even though I know nothing about and may not even like the inside content at all. I find Moby’s commercial music hit-and-miss so I can only speculate of the quality and usefulness of those free tracks.

Anyway, I’m mostly writing to thank the provider of the http://www.10minutemail.com link. It’s much better alternative to managing a bunch of secondary Yahoo accounts, which, by the way, those get absolutely flooded with spam even after registering on quite legit websites. I’ll register on Moby Gratis now and see if I can use any of the tracks in a non-commercial videogame I’m developing. I’ll also have to find out if the license applies to non-profit videogames as it does to non-profit movies. If it’s the case, I’ll ask Moby or his people to point it out in the general license.

I hate it when they force to register to without giving out any details about the inside content. I’m not going to give out my full information, including phone number and valid e-mail address, to some shmoes who can’t even provide a small sample of the content somewhere around the registration page. The next thing you know, you have a whole bunch of Nigerian relatives asking for a donation that will help to enlarge you you-know-what. That leads me to a question, is this site child-friendly?
