This review was written in Feb 2008, at which time Desktop Sidebar was very much in development.

As I checked the program home page it is indeed down; however I am not so sure that it is down permanently (I vaguely remember visitng that site last week). I would wait a couple of days or a week and check again.

i’ve loved DesktopSidebar for a long time, and have just decided to put it on my work computer, since we use Outlook. But apparently, http://www.desktopsidebar.com is no longer in operation, so i don’t know where to go for more plugins, skins, etc.

the program itself i got from downloads.com, and it comes with the standard skins and plugins. but i guess whoever it was that developed it gave up on it sometime in the fall of 2006…

I tried it, liked it, but it slowed down my computer, so I uninstalled it again.

Thanks for the review! Appreciate the candid thoughts as well.
For your last issue, you can import OPML files.
Go to the News Panel options. Under the Channels tab, you will see an “Other” button. And under the file choice filter in the Open dialog window…you will see the selection for OPML files.

I still think that Yahoo Widgets is the best option if someone is in to the Desktop Sidebars. But personally I am yet not convinced about the utility of desktop widgets.
