Find As You Type

Find As You Type ScreenshotRating: 55 Star Rating pick

Version tested: 1.3

Description: "Find As You Type" is an add-on for Internet Explorer which installs a search box on the IE toolbar that will interactively find and highlight the first instance of the search string as you type it. It also makes it easy to scroll through instances of the search string in the page, and adds the ability to highlight all instances of your search string that occur in the page.

Here are some notes on this program:

  • Searching from the toolbar: this program allows you to search for strings straight from the toolbar (no need to press CTRL-F).
  • Finding as you type: will find and highlight the found search string in the page as you type it.
  • Scrolling through found entries: buttons on the toolbar itself that make it easy to find next/previous instances of the search string.
  • Highlighting all search strings on page: (this one is my favorite); if you’ve ever wished that there was something equivalent to the highlighted-search-text function in Google whereby your search terms are highlighted across the browser page for easy identification; this is it.
  • Installation: run the installer then open Internet Explorer, then right click on the Internet Explorer toolbar and place a check by the "Find As You Type" entry.
  • Match case: a button on the "Find As You Type" toolbar toggles case matching on and off for your search string.

Ever since I installed this program to test it I have found myself liking it more and more. I don’t normally like to clutter my browser with toolbars, but you use Internet Explorer this toolbar will quickly become indispensible. Highly recommended.

Compatibility: Windows XP, Server 2003 or Vista; seperate versions for x86 and x64 systems are available.

Go to the program page to get the latest version (approx 817K).

This looks like a handy add-on, unfortunately I can’t try it at work but will try it at home.

    Regards.

Nice blog on “re-installing windows” with all freeware. Use several of your selections myself.

Thats impressing. By the way is anything similar available for Firefox or Opera, cause I usually use these two more than IE.

Check out IE7Pro. It adds the find as you type functionality to IE6/7 … plus a whole lot of other features
