Hi why does this take half an hour with some dvd’s and gives an ETA of 6h+ with others (using DVD43 + convert to PSP) is this a copy protection issue?

Vista users must first right click on the Handbrake.exe file on your install folder, and click on “Run as Administrator” because this software uses command prompt as its log display. You must do this even if you are using your Vista with an administrator account already. Otherwise Handbreak won’t work with an incomprehensible error message. Usually it will tell you something s**tty like “Make sure the DVD isn’t right protected” etc.

Handbrake is amazing. I am using the Mac version. It used to be a nightmare to rip DVDs a few years ago. I used Handbrake to rip the first Harry Potter movie from an original DVD to small iPod movie for my son’s new Nano.

I used my kids’ old iMac G3 (the one that looks like a lamp to rip the DVD. It toot around 14 hours (!) but the result was perfect.

Fred, Not sure about any of these questions with respect to Handbrake, but you might want to take a look at StaxRip which works with AviSynth scripts and might deliver what you need.

Will HandBrake also support encoding to MPEG-2 with external encoders (HC, for example) and custom AviSynth scripts? I’ve been looking for a replacement for DVD2SVCD for a long time. It’s fairly easy to find converter to MPEG-4 but not so easy to fine good GUIs to go to MPEG-2 using BeSweet for audio conversion.
