Being a minimalist, this application seems to be duplicitous. That is, I can always capture a webpage as an image (or part thereof), html, html+images, or html+current_state+images+css+js, save it to which ever organizational structure I currently save my documents, analyze, and retrieve/view whenever I want. All with IE7 or FF3+unmht, Win Explorer and Win Search if you want quick previews. Further, its easy and does not introduce a new workflow.

>> In the free version is the location of the archives (in documents and settings/active user) cannot be changed, which I find most annoying as I do not like to save data on the primary partition.

You can always use symlinks to move the folder(s) to another partition (provided that you have NTFS on your system drive - you'd rather do)

I also agree with eve and sorcar, Scrapbook is a very nice FF extension, and perfect alternative for Evernote (v3 with 40 MB limit, huge 80 MB installation), Google Notebook (annoying picture resize, no customization allowed, slow offline support through Google Docs Gears)... Bornfly PIM, ByteScout Internet Research Scout, Local Website Archive. A nice companion for Scrapbook is Nuke Anything Enhanced, which allows you further capture enhancements.

Just what are you waiting to get your Firefox 3 copy?

How about this: http://www.httrack.com/

I think the scrapbook addon of firefox does a fantastic job of web archiving. It is free and I daresay it is more useful than Local website archive. I'll love to see you stack it up along with Evernote, Bornfly and ByteScout.

There are plenty of alternatives if you only use IE or FF. Very few free.

Local Web Archive (lwa) is the only one that seems able to capture properly from Opera, kmeleon and a lot of other browsers, pages within email clients etc. It means that no matter what browser I switch to in the future, my collection will still be there.

I have had it for years, although the registered version, and my only wish would be for better import/export/sync/sharing options. For a while there was a 100 document limit on the free version - seriously limiting - but they stopped doing this.

Eve,
Thanks for letting me know about Scrapbook.
I don't really use FF, so I'm not too well versed with all of the available plugins, but I will check this one out.
