[...] Ok, here is the thing, the free audio editors’ scene is not exactly burgeoning, which is more of a reason for celebrations and jubilations when one hears about a newcomer. Before Wavosaur, the only natural choice for people with sound editing needs was (and still is as some would argue) is Audacity (reviewed earlier at Freewaregenius). In fact, you can’t mention Wavosaur without bumping into its arch competitor, so in this review I’m not going to avoid the comparison but I will try to focus on Wavosaur as much as possible.
Damn!

I wanted to review this!

It's good that somebody finally beat me to it, sorry sam!

I don't know if this is mentioned in the review but Audacity can work as a multi-track recorder, something of interest for would-be recording artists.

It would be interesting to see an implementation of VST natively within Audacity; VST being the audio industry-standard for plugins.

Then it would be a real KILLER!

I was wondering when you'd include Audacity. It is everything Blaze and other audio editors are, but free and dependable!

I love Audacity - I use it for many different projects. Recently, however, I ran across an annoying aspect - although it's easy for me to install Audacity and set up LAME, it's neither easy for some users who could otherwise be coached to use the software, nor is it time-effective to set up Audacity and LAME individually on multiple computers. I solved that problem by rolling out my own Audacity installer and writing up a step-by-step tutorial here:

http://www.thelifeledger.com/2007/04/18/installing-audacity-and-lame-in-one-step/

I suspect the distribution of the resulting setup file violates patent law, as the portable Audacity project also doesn't distribute LAME; but for personal use when installing Audacity on multiple computers, having a one-step installer really helps.
