FileMenu Tools adds a number of useful commands into the Windows right-click context menu. It is highly customizable, in that you can select exactly which commands you want displayed, and will allow you to insert seperators and submenus as you see fit. It will also allow you to create your own custom commands that can access external programs via the command-line-interface.

I am a big fan of anything that has to do with the Windows context menu. If you’re like me, you’ll like this program very much. FileMenu Tools enables you to do the following:

• Add its own commands to the context menus; any or all. A list of these is presented below.
• Add your own custom commands that run external programs via the command line interface
• Customize both the ‘send to’ and context menu by enabling or disabling the commands that are already there by other applications.

A list of the FileMenu Tools context menu commands:

• Run with Parameters – Run a program with parameters typed through a dialog box.
• Command Line From Here – start a command line window from within the selected folder.
• Copy to – Copies the selected file/folder to another location (opens select target folder dialog).
• Move to – Moves the selected file/folder to another location (opens select target folder dialog).
• Copy Path – Copies to the path of selected file/folder to the clipboard.
• Copy Content – Copies to the clipboard the content of the selected file (works mainly with text/html files). For folders it will copy the names of the files and folders within it.
• Attributes – Allows you to change the attributes of a file or folder through a submenu (Read Only/Hidden/System/Modified). For folders you can do this recursively.
• Change Time – Change the creation, last access, or last write time. For a folder you can do this recursively.
• Split File – Splits the selected file in multiple parts of user-defined sizes.
• Join File – Joins the parts of a file which was previously split.
• Find And Replace – Finds and replaces a text in all selected file. For folders it will look at all files. Supports regular expressions. (This one is very cool).
• Advanced Renamer – Renames files/folders using a number of rules. Quite powerful.
• Change Icon – Works with folder only; very nice dialog.
• Advanced Delete – Deletes specific file types within a folder, which can be specified using wildcards (e.g. all text files, or all files containing a certain string in the name). Can be recursive or non recursive.
• Synchronize Folders – Highly configurable; (can be unidirectional, bidirectional, or custom); select file types to be synchronized through filters/wildcards; you can also save the sync profile created.
• Delete and no move to Recycle Bin – does exactly what it says.
• Copy Name – Copies the name of the selected file/folder into the clipboard.
• Delete Locked File – Deletes files that are locked by another application.
• Create New Folder – Creates a new folder.
• Register DLL – when clicking on DLL file, registers it in Windows.
• Unregister DLL – when clicking on DLL file, UN-registers it in Windows.

This program works really well and has a very intuitive look and feel. What is most exciting is the ability to create your own right-click menu commands (there are numerous free command-line programs out there that do all sorts of things). For example, I was able to make my own “make thumbnail” context menu command using a freeware command line image converter (see screenshot). Suffice it to say this is one of the coolest tools I’ve come by in a long time. Highly recommended.
