Vixy

Vixy is a website that provides 3 services; it can download YouTube and other embedded FLV videos straight into a number of different video formats, including Ipod MP4, and it can Generate video RSS feeds or video Podcasts using either a YouTube URL or keyword search.

I’ve been looking for a good solution for how to download YouTube videos into Ipod MP4 video for some time, and this is certainly it. I’ve found some software that does this, but the quality of the MP4 video was rather poor. I am happy to report that Vixy’s video conversions are simply excellent.

Note that Vixy allows download into a number of formats. In addition to Ipod MP4, it supports DivX encoded AVI, 3GP for Mobile, and Mac MOV format. Or if you are interested in only downloading the audio track into MP3 it can do that as well. I somehow expect that the list of supported formats will continue to grow.

Vixy is also an excellent resource for creating video RSS feeds. I used it to create a feed by keyword search and it did a great job. The RSS feed will update automatically whenever new videos are posted that are related to your search term.

This service is really cool, really fast, and, if you have an Ipod and are interested in YouTube videos, it is simply a gift.

Go to the Vixy home page.

same problem here. got video, no audio.

well, you can try http://flvix.com or http://zamzar.com

but i recommend flvix for faster conversion since zamzar will still e-mail you the link and you have to wait for like.. ages.

I converted videos from youtube and no sound… Is it possible to fix the problem?

  • Greg says:

I’ve converted videos from youtube in ALL available output formats, and most videos have no sound no matter what the format. I was only successful with a few. Why would I want to download the app or make a donation if they can’t get it to work properly?!?!?! I hope they fix the problem soon!

  • Carrie says:

I love this program, but It isn’t working right. I have video but no sound and I don’t know of anyway to report to the makers of this problem

  • Anonymous says:

i was so excited once i saw the video but there was no sound! i downloaded a few of them and im still trying and still no sound for any of them. aaahhhh!!

  • Greg says:

Their e-mail is vixy [at] vixy.net, (it’s listed under “Feedback” on the Vixy webpage) but good luck! I wrote to them already and got no reply. Reading the above complaints, I can’t see how they don’t already know about this problem. First complaint was on February 12th, 2007! The current batch of problems seems to have started around May 27th, 2008 (see above) I’ve counted 17 complaints since then.

Is it possible for Vixy service to change resolution of video file in the process of converting? Some Flash Video files (YouTube’s videos, etc) have other resolution than 320×240 pixels. But my player only supports 320×240.

Go to http://www.vconversion.com and quit wasting time with this site..it has been abandoned..

It’s September 30th, 2008 and the vixy converter Beta just quit converting. Today is the day named in the fine print as the day it is supposed to cease functioning.

Well now what the heck am I supposed to do?

    Well?

  • Ben says:

I like the converter exept after the first video i downloaded none of the others downloaded with audio is this a fixable problem?

  • stevo says:

Ben, I got the same result just now. I checked here to see if anyone else was responding. The first videos, yesterday had sound, but now the sound is wiped … just the video is translated.

I would try again tomorrow, or email vixy.

    Stev

  • Allen says:

    Undoubtedly a good service…
Just 1 bug… the mp3’s generated show incorrect play timings… somewhere around 20 mins even if its just 5 mins long.

  • reg says:

Site is still working, but it depends on the time of day, ie global Web usage. I usually use Firefox, but sometimes find that if the video file fails to convert, switching to another browser (eg Safari) helps.

  • DPot says:

For those of you who have been experiencing audio trouble, try downloading the Vixy Beta Client from their site. I was having audio trouble but that worked great.

  • sara says:

is this illegal? can companies scanning for downloaded music through other companies, such a bearshare and other free websites, tell if ur downloading the music from this site?

  • Deanna says:

Whenever I try to convert a video to mp3 format for the audio only, it messes up the time code. I had a 3 minute song I was trying to convert and it turned out to be 33 minutes after I converted it. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • macjac says:

    All the MP4 options (Web-Beta Download & H.264)
have ALL ceased to function (at least on the Mac)
Any clue as to what’s going on, or when/if it’ll
    be fixed? :(

    TIA
    Jake.

  • adiaz says:

I got the same problem above posted (youtube is down?) can anyone post some sort of solution, I really love the quality of file conversion that vixy.net provides.

  • Janis says:

I downloaded intel beta version to my mac, then entered URL it looked like it converted, but cannot find file anywhere? Looked in movies etc. any ideas anyone?

  • eboy999 says:

I had the same problem as Janis. I tried the download because, having used the online successfully a couple times (granted a while ago) it NEVER seems to work anymore.

    Help!

  • Missa says:

I’ve used Vixy.net A LOT in the past, but now I just keep getting “Youtube.com is down?” when it tries to resolve the url. I know this same problem has been stated before, but it would be helpful to know if there is a solution. :D

  • Beth says:

Janis wrote: I downloaded intel beta version to my mac, then entered URL it looked like it converted, but cannot find file anywhere? Looked in movies etc. any ideas anyone?

I’m having the same problem – I’ve had the finder pull up all my .mov files and arrange them by date and haven’t been able to find any for the day I tried to rip with Vixy. They just aren’t there. Very disappointing.

  • sheepinatorz says:

mac users – make the video an MP4 file, u can view it with iTunes or i think quicktime, im using the downloaded version of it, much easier…..and if u get an error on the site about “unable to resolve URL”, or something like that, just hit cancel and try again, someimtes the server is full or something, some videos may take several tries in order to resolve the URL….

  • Mira says:

I’m finding that the ’start’ button is grayed out. Anyway to solve this? Has this happened to anyone else?

  • Bright says:

It’s happened to a TON of people…what’s weird though is that all remarks regarding it seem to have disappeared. But alas, the problem continues.

  • yazzy says:

all of a sudden vixy cant work??? despite using it ALOT in the past with brilliant results!the start button wont click/register WWWWHHHYYY???? ITS DRIVING ME MAD,, PLEASE SOMEONE,ANYONE HELP?there must be loads of cmputer genieus out there!!

  • Bright says:

Well, I’m done waiting for the problem to be fixed. I’ve waited long enough and there are other similar services out there. So I shall take my converting needs elsewhere.

  • Timothy says:

Start button isn’t working for me either, and the site itself fails to convert any youtube vid/music properly. Shame because vixy worked perfectly fine a month ago.

  • W.D. says:

Where did all the comments regarding the grayed-out Start button go? Basically every comment made in December’s gone. =/ The Start button is still not working, btw.

  • amanda says:

I agree the start button is gray and it doesn’t work, the website itself isn’t working anymore either it downloads the video but not the music attached to it, Anyone know any other sites that do the same thing?

  • LUVMUSIC says:

For some reason I recieve always the same error when trying to use Vixy:
    “URL resolve error”

    Now I’m using AudioGet.net for mp3 downloads.
Unfortunately it supports only mp3 downloads and no video downloads.

Here is the Link to it:
    http://www.audioget.net

  • CR says:

What’s going on? Don’t they care anymore? Button’s still gray.

  • brucanes says:

I used this new tool Grabthatvideo, it really works perfectly and I downloaded many videos right now.

Here is the Link to it:
    http://www.grabthatvideo.com

  • vnvnvn says:

Thank you brucanes for the recomendation. It works great. It seems like Vixy doesn’t care, they deleted the complaints from December.

  • olympia says:

Note that I, too, had trouble converting files with Vixy until I changed the URL to http://vixy.net from http://www.vixy.net.

I am still having trouble running the Beta (which used to work), but at least I am now able to convert files using the website.

  • Thank you very much,
Vixy is very cool and works great!
