Description: Vixy is a website that provides 3 services; it can download YouTube and other embedded FLV videos straight into a number of different video formats, including Ipod MP4, and it can Generate video RSS feeds or video Podcasts using either a YouTube URL or keyword search.
I’ve been looking for a good solution for how to download YouTube videos into Ipod MP4 video for some time, and this is certainly it. I’ve found some software that does this, but the quality of the MP4 video was rather poor. I am happy to report that Vixy’s video conversions are simply excellent.
Note that Vixy allows download into a number of formats. In addition to Ipod MP4, it supports DivX encoded AVI, 3GP for Mobile, and Mac MOV format. Or if you are interested in only downloading the audio track into MP3 it can do that as well. I somehow expect that the list of supported formats will continue to grow.
Vixy is also an excellent resource for creating video RSS feeds. I used it to create a feed by keyword search and it did a great job. The RSS feed will update automatically whenever new videos are posted that are related to your search term.
This service is really cool, really fast, and, if you have an Ipod and are interested in YouTube videos, it is simply a gift.

this site is not working properly
very good
I really appreciate this service for impossible-to-get videos available on youtube which I’ve downloaded; thanks to it I can conserve some really old 60’s music videos I would never have found otherwise and unfortunately a lot are being deleted on youtube due to Viacom’s claims. On a Win98 machine, other free converters you need to have installed don’t work as they’re for XP. Sometimes the server is busy and sometimes they take a while to download but the result is what counts.
It’s good, but I’ve got some problems to convert some videos, because it haven’t sound when after conversion, I don’t know why.

I’ve only be able to successfully convert and download one file from YouTube. Every other attempt has met with the same problems already mentioned.
I did write to vixy.net for some help. Beyond telling me that I needed to download the DivX codecs to play the .avi file, the response was not helpful. No explanation of why a file is only partially present.
Anyone else tried vixy.net for some help?

every time i try converting a video to mp3 it makes the mp3 aobut 30 minutes and the video was only about 2 min…

i was very excited to find this program and converted several videos i loved. however, the program only converted around 50s of the whole song i wanted into audio mp3 format. is that the extent to which vixy converts youtube videos in mp3 format?
great converter. i have converted and downloaded several youtube video. i did really be viewed by windows media player. but the problem is the video is upsidedown! do i have to set-up the video or is there any other way i can correctly view the converted and downloaded file?

For these people that is having problems with vixy:
1. “Bad Header” error: Youtube requests for this video an user and password, vixy doesn’t handle youtube logging.
2. “link don’t working”: we have two options here: Same as descripted at 1: Youtube requests an user and password logging. Or, the video has been deleted due copyright or content policy violation.
It does seem to work ok but I’m having two problems converting to mp3 audio. Not all tracks will play back, lacking the proper codec, while others will play back fine. Is this something on the original file or a random thing with vixy? Also, when trying to burn, the files cut off two or three seconds early on the cd even tho they’re full length and play back fine on the the media player. Help!
I only wanted a 10 second video to be converted to .mp4 and for half an hour it’s said “connecting to server”.
It can only convert videos from YouTube??? What about other sites?? I tries http://www.dailymotion.com and the error returned “unable to resolve URL. YouTube is down?” Its not even YouTube….

I have the same issues as number 17 basically.
The only thing is i’m having issues downloading certain videos from youtube. The video downloads but when i try to edit and make a movie out of it, the first frame only shows the picture, the rest are blank with only audio going.

ffmpeg anyone? It’s not that hard to use. For example:
ffmpeg -i video.flv -acodec mp3 -vcodec mpeg4 -sameq video.avi
Copy that line, it’ll let you convert those flv videos into something useful with next to zero quality loss.
Help please! I am converting the youtube videos to avi format using vixy, but when I save them they will not play back in RealPlayer. I get the message “Bad data in AVI source file”. But when I open and run the file straight from vixy after downloading instead of saving it and then trying to play, it will play. Can anyone help? Thanks!
hmmm when i downloaded a song into mp3 it went from 05:59 to 49:06, thes ong repeats. does this happen for all mp3 conversions?

Very useful site, no problems with it. Works okay everytime I access it. Files downloaded are of good quality. Just wish that the paypal donation link had english language version link too.
It’s cool, but can only download videos from youtube. Also, the videos mess up if you try to edit them in Movie Maker. Other than that, it’s excellent.

I love vixy.net! It’s the best site for converting Flash/YouTube clips to QuickTime files. I would like a .WMV format since .AVI files and WMP don’t always play nice (can’t download/find codec)

i tried listening to my encoded thingy before, but it didnt work in winamp, so i tried it in quicktime. IT ACTUALLY WORKSSS… or you can even put it on your iPOD to see if it actually works!

When downloading it in avi form the transfer starts at a good speed, falls quickly to 0.1kbps and stops downloading.
Is it a problem with codecs?
There are some great live recordings out there on Youtube which are unavailable on Audio CD’s. Converted some of my favourites to MP3 via Vixy, then made a compilation Audio CD to play in the car etc.

When I try and and play my converted mp4 files on my psp, my psp says that the data type is unsupported. Im confused because i thought that the mp4 was the data type for psps. Please help.
alot of you guys seem to be trying to play the converted video in a player that doesn’t support Divx files. One dude tried to play this converted video in Real Player… Real Player has to be the most BLOATED, CRAPPY, LAME piece of software ever trusted by so many people. Do yourself a favor and UN-INSTALL Real Player, and go download yourself the DIVX Codec at http://www.divx.com once you install it, the converted videos will play in Windows Media Player(crap), Winamp (almost crap) or best choice: “Media Player Classic” and “Real Alternative” Google whats quoted you complaining little twerps who can’t read half a sentence worth of instructions before coming and bitching about how it doesn’t wor. This isn’t even worth wasting time replying because no one will even read it.

i copied like the full URL from youtube and then when it finishes it won’t recognize and if i put it on my ipod video it says “this video cannot be played on this ipod” and then it doesn’t go on
Fernie, you have to have a converter. I use AudioVideo and it works great. You’re iPod can only play mp4’s, so you have to convert from the original format. Try checking out http://www.freewarefiles.com for free converters.

I was only able to get one vid fro youtube to download and it worked perfectly, then my excitement ended quickly because ever since then I cant get anything to coonect. Every url that i put in it just says connecting to server but it never coonects.

Hey I think that the tool need to get a FIREFOX EXSTENSION that would do the work for you, so you don’t need to copy urls and all that. Cut to the basics, that’s what needed!
I got mp3’s from youtube and the mp3’s did not sound at all like they should. They were very low quality. I got about 8 and all were terrible

WOW! I was able to get about 10 videos from this site, and the file was in the exact same quality that YouTube had which was excellent because the converting softwares I’ve tried made the videos pause frame by frame and didn’t play smoothly. But these videos from vixy have been great! But after those 10 videos I’ve been getting either stuck at “connecting to server”, “server too busy”, or “Error: YouTube server down?” =(
I’ve been getting the same messages when trying to convert a youtube clip to put on my ipod: “connecting to server” and “Error: YouTube server down”. If I had to guess, YouTube’s new owners, Google, are cracking down on sites like vixy and putting up blocks to make them inoperable. After all, I read that Google is trying to woo the studios to license content to them; I’m sure they have to make a show about being tough on unauthorized use.

I’ve run into some of the same problems…a 5 minute video converted to an mp3 should not yield a song 40 minutes long…^^;;; But I’ve had some successes, so I’m really happy I found this site. I’ve gotten songs that, as hard as I’ve looked, cannot be found anywhere else.

i downloaded a 4-minute song and the song is the correct duration in windows media player but it ended up 40 minutes on itunes, so i can’t sync it into my ipod.

I’m having trouble with the mp3 service. Basically, the whole song is there (it says its a minute less than the video), but then when you play it in Windoze Media Player it gets to the end and then keeps playing for a while. So.. I’m thinking this is a problem on vixy’s end, specifically in regards to the converting software not properly creating the .mp3 files. Perhaps this could be dealt with by the dev team? thanks. the download worked fine after cancelling and trying again a couple of times, but when i brought the file up in media player, it showed an error, and only the sound played. funny, eh?

This site killed my files. I converted a short youtube video to that amv or avm file. Then I downloaded the converted file but when I open it everything closed. When I opened my videos to even click on the other folder thta has the new file in it windows exploer came up with the encountered problem thing. I had a print screen picture but I can’t upload it on the internet because when I click browse it goes to the folder the file is in and it closes everything. I would totally panic but it seems most people like this site so there must be some way to fix this. Can some one please help me be able to open my folders agian?
Ok I even did a system restore and when I tried to open the folder agian it freezed my whole computer. You might not want to use this espically if ur saving ur video in a folder with a lot of vaulble info.

It run well but I have a mac and the only format that works with the sound is the avi for windows. I dont know if its because tis avi or maybe should it be burned in pal format (what is this actually?) , but when I burn a VCD, the quality on my tv screen is lik e not blurred but as if diagonal lines where missing in the images. or as if the images where kind of double. I dont understand why since it looks absolutely clear on my computer screen, and when its clear on the computer, its s normally even more clear on a tv screen, which is of a lower resolutio, isn’it? Soorry for my ortograph faults but I am french:))
Can someone help me? Or explain me whats the diff. between Pal and ntsc? I think ntsc is used for direct editing from a camera but I dont know.

It’s the best site of downloading Youtube Video a have ever seen. But well, nothing is perfect and there’s a little problem with the site: there’s a bug in the MP3 archive, the music become a little bigger but it’s not exactly this. To Really understand what I’m telling try to Download anithing in MP3 Format.
This program is great, but it comes with a few errors.
1. Sometimes when I download, the music stops at less than a minute.
2. It’s too often that I see “The servers are too buzy”
3. Some of the files I download to mp3 are messed up.
vixy is and the only best on internet that does this but now all hopes as gone as it as not been working for me now for a few days now getting error messages or nothink at all
well its free so i cant really complain. it does work well, sometimes it can make video choppy but this has only happened to me once. it also has trouble with bigger vids.
overall i give it a thumbs up. i have at least 30 vids on my ipod from vixy. they just need more servers.
seems i have to add to my last comment. WoW…they really need more servers! after my 1st comment i went to dl a video…NOTHING just servers are too buzy over and over again. no one ids gonna give mopney for this. they’d better offer a really solid subscription service or just sell the software directly. the server thing is VERY annoying and will kill vixy before it gets out. Thx a lot for this converter; it is simply great, no other words to describe it. I have successfully downloaded many videos in avi format and they work really well.
For those who are having problems while playing it, try downloading VLC player and playing in it. Also avi conversion works the best; it’s a bit slow but good.

It works rather well (Youtube –> MP4). I’ve converted a complete documentary (7 parts, each about 10 minutes) from YouTube to Ipod.
One disadvantage: it takes patience now and then. I often needed three attempts for each and every single conversion.

To the retards that say “donation link needs to be in English” have you ever looked at the top of the page, where it has a big drop down box with Japanese written in it? Change it to U.S. English - and there you go.
Also - stop complaining about a FREE service, if you don’t like it; USE SOMETHING ELSE.
Number 22 find .flv in the page source and copy from http:// before it to the ..flv and it works
Vixy is excellent for YouTube but unfortunately doesn’t work on any other flash site.
With YouTub everything works easily and perfectly with my Mac but Windows is a problem using the same ISP and internet connections.
If you’re not using Broadband you will have problems too I think.

Late last night the homepage suddenly vanished… if you check View > Source, you can see that there’s nothing on the blank page that’s currently displaying.

To previous posters, just a comment re: a couple of the problems people sometimes experience. I often get a “header error” message when I try to convert a file; usually it’s sufficient to click Cancel and try again. The second time is almost always successful, the third time (when necessary) always so.
Similarly with the downloads… I often get a “download completed” message after only 2 seconds! The “download” is usually about 200 KB in size; obviously not complete. I just download the file a second time, overwriting the incomplete one. Again, the second try almost always works; when it doesn’t, the third one usually does.
And as for conversions stalling partway through - I usually wait a few minutes and if they don’t start up again, I cancel the download and try again from scratch. Sooner or later, it’ll work. You just have to be patient.

Ok for the psp, I think it’s because the audio frequency is not the good one. that’s the reason why the PSP displays unsupported data.
The only solution I’ve got is to download the file into another format, avi for exemple and then convert the video for your psp. With whatever converter you have.

It’s still in beta, and there are still bugs. Once it becomes fully released, it should have larger server(s) and less conversion mishaps.

Try installing the PC Beta version. It works great, very fast conversion. Lot’s better than the web based version.
If u get stuck at Connecting or header error or watever…try canceling and starting again,also do not include http://www. in it just http://youtube.com/wateveryouchose

um..yeah tried 3 diff bleed it out youtube vids but all to same result…in the time thingy on my psp when playing it…it says XX.XX:20.60 and it plays the whole song but then keeps going playing nuthin…any help?

I have been using Vixy for about 3 months with no previous problems and the beta is the best on the CPU, versus the website.
I am very pleased with Vixy, for those of you who have had problems it is simply very tempermental, and you just have to try againa and again sometimes to get it to work. But it’s great otherwise!
I downloaded one video from Vixy for my iPod and it worked great! I tried to download another video, but it says “Connecting to the server” for hours! Any help?
After downloading and converting, i get these lines in center of the video. Not all videos,just certain ones.The lines start as a group at the bottom of video and pulse to the top, covering the center of video.What’s up!

i just need the audio,but when i do that mp3 converter thingy on vixy it shows that i have it when it’s done converting but when i try to play it nothing happens and when i check the properties it says it’s 0bytes o.o……
I have converted a file using vixy. I really want to use it in Movie Maker and or Windows Movie Player. However, it does not play the audio or video. The strange thing is if you slide to different parts of the track it shows the different part of the video as a still and shows the time. Any advice?

When I try to download an MP3 from a vid, the music will go on for like 10 minutes and will keep jumping back to the beginning or skipping to the end. Any suggestions?

Logging into youtube seemed to solve the problems for me.
I’ve loved using the beta PC-based Vixy.net for a long time, and then, out of nowhere, the converted videos have no audio. This started about late April. The online version is very hit-and-miss - about 1 out of 5 turns out OK and it takes forever to get connected to the Vixy server. Did the beta version change? I see on the site that this current beta version expires on June 30, but can’t remember if there was a different date prior. What I’m doing to Mickey-Mouse-fix the problem is convert my YouTube file on Vixy, do the same on Zamzar, download both to my PC, extract the audio (mp3) from Zamzar with my audio extraction program, load the Vixy video file and the Zamzar audio file into Movie Maker, convert the whole shebang to a wmv file, then convert it again to DIVX avi using my DIVX converted. Highly convoluted, but it works. I’d be thrilled to just keep the Zamzar conversion file except that it is MUCH bigger than the one Vixy produces and Zamzar is horribly lossy - the end result video is always pixelated. The video quality of Vixy is far superior. But silly me - I want the vid file to also have audio, so I jump through hoops.

I use to be able to convert clips but know the converter stops before the clip is made. Do you know why this keeps happening?

Yeah, I’m having the same problem with the audio. But it’s only happening with one video. Several people have uploaded it on Youtube, and I tried all the different ones I could find but they all come out the same. Great video, but no audio. I’ve tried downloading several different videos and they all work fine, except for this one. Anybody got any ideas?
I’ve also noticed when I loaded it on my computer, that QuickTime isn’t showing any audio. So it looks like vixy isn’t converting the audio. Why is the big question.
I think theres a problem with the new player or format of newer uploaded youtube videos. I’ve tried downloading mp3s from older videos and they’ll work fine, except for saying its 30 min long. But newer videos aren’t working at all. I know youtube got a new player recently, could that have something to do with it? Or did they change the format for uploaded videos?

As a lot of other people, all my Vixy downloads are without sound…maybe it is Google getting revenge. I have never had problems with Vixy in the past, I almost always am able to quickly download my choice videos…I noticed the error messages at peak download times. Until Vixy is back up with complete audio, you can try idesktop.tv, they have most of the same videos and they download great with sound, plus you can choose several different formats quite easily…just an option.
Be reminded that this is not all vixy’s fault. The older youtube uploads still convert just fine. Does anybody know when the new downloadable version of visy will be out? Version .5 is suppposed to expire today (6-30-08)?

Vixy often fails here (because of high Web traffic?) but it always works in the end if I just keep trying. Here’s a few tips that work for me using WinXP with IE5, and using Vista, converting to avi:
1. After pasting your URL into the box, during Vixy’s first step (”connecting to the server”), Internet Explorer should say “opening page…” at the bottom of the window. If it says “done” or “error,” Vixy is no longer trying to connect, even though it looks as if it is. Close Vixy and re-open it, or hit the Refresh button in IE, otherwise it’ll probably just keep giving you the same problem.
2. Once Vixy has displayed “resolving URL” for more than a couple of seconds, the biggest problem is over. It’ll nearly always go on to complete the conversion without further trouble.
3. When it’s finished its conversion, you’ll need to initiate the download without much delay, otherwise the link usually becomes invalid.
4. Occasionally the download progress bar will suddenly rush to the end and claim to be completed. No it isn’t - it’s truncated it and it won’t play. Download again, quickly, before the URL becomes invalid.
5. As you clearly can’t leave Vixy to run unattended, you can save time and have less boredom if you open another copy of Vixy and start another conversion while you’re waiting. If you’re very intelligent, try opening a third one. Once Vixy starts working properly, the second and third instances usually work as well.

but i recommend flvix for faster conversion since zamzar will still e-mail you the link and you have to wait for like.. ages.
