ALPass

ALPass Screen Shot

ALPass automates the process of form-filling passwords to log into various websites/services. Unlike others in this category, such as AIRoboform, ALPass is 100% free for unlimited logins. It is a very small memory-resident app that can be accessed through the tray-icon, and pops-up whenever it recognizes a password-entry form.

Rating: 44 Star Rating

Rating:Version tested: 2.6 beta1

Unlike Roboform, this program isn’t designed to fill every type of form that you could ever come across, only passwords. Which is just as well, because (a) that is 99% of what I found I was using Roboform for, and (b) the Google toolbar, which I always use, has pretty good standard form-filling functionality built into it anyway.

Notes:

  • There’s a little banner that this program displays to promote the developer’s other software. Since all of their software is free, I’ve decided that this is not adware, especially as it doesn’t interfere with the user experience at all.
  • You WILL need to supply them with a valid email to get your free registration code. If you’re not comfortable doing this use mailexpire to get a temporary email, although I’m pretty sure that they’re pretty trustworthy.

Here’s what I would have liked to have given this one a higher rating: support for non IE browsers, namely Firefox, a browser toolbar button to fill in passwords in addition to the tray icon that pops up; a right-click context menu command to fill in a password.

A freeware alternative to: AIRoboform, etc.

    Have you tried KeePass?

This is free, there is also a PocketPC version, it uses standard encryption so you know it is safe. It can generate passwords, import/export from various formats. It also has a fairly sophisticated way of doing form filling although you need to be happy with writing simple scripts in the notes field.

What’s more, there are no adverts and no need to register for anything. It is hard to get better than that!

downloaded a few weeks ago, but only used once to store 1 password. Tried to uninstall, but received a high intrusion alert! Can not get the darn thing out my IE or computer—if this happens I consider not only the product, but the site recommending it dangerous to my pc and info safety!!! Finally all files are off hard drive! Now deleting memory of freeware genius and sending out my alerts to both

I don’t like any plugins on IE toolbar,
I’am using Cute Password Manager now, it’s very easy to use.

I am using “lastpass” since 2 years ago and it is great, free and now usable even with google chrome, you can access via internet on your virtual safe full of all your access words and create even profile of automatic form filling, you can have a general password and choose to put it every time you access to the service or make it remember.

Thank you, this site is great, I found a lot of interesting things, continue like this.

    Regards,
