Batch Rename Utility ScreenshotThis is a very useful utility that enables batch renaming of files and folder. It’s got a wide array of powerful functions/features that you can access through a dashboard-type control panel.

Rating: 55 Star Rating

Version tested: 2.3.7.2

I’ve been using this for almost a year now and find it to be powerful yet intuitive to use at the same time. Here are some of the features from the developer’s website:

  • Very easy to use
  • Rename files, folders or both
  • Remove or change a filename
  • Perform string substitution
  • Change the case of filenames
  • Remove characters or words
  • Remove digits or symbols
  • Append or prepend text
  • Append dates in many formats
  • Append the parent folder’s name
  • Auto-number files with flexible rules
  • Automatically preview the new names
  • Sort the file details by any column
  • Group configurations into “favourites”
  • “Bulk Rename” Explorer extension
  • Directory recursion – process subdirectories too!
  • Rename files from an input text-file list
  • Create an “Undo” batch file
  • Log activity to a text log file
  • Change file and folder date/time-stamps (created, modified, accessed)
  • Change file/folder attributes (hidden, readonly, archived)
  • Small memory footprint
  • Settings retained between sessions

Download latest version on the developer’s  download page. The Program’s Home Page.

A powerful renamer. Don’t get put off by what at first seems to be a bewildering array of boxes, buttons and choices – it’s easier than it looks.

BRK is very powerfull indeed. I used it or years… until I found Denis Kozlov’s ReNamer. Try this one out, you won’t regret it. It can do everything BRK does, and more. Let’s you create your own rename scripts, supports metadata manipulation, RegExp (wonderfull!). Ah, and it also lets you save your rename options into profiles, so you can reuse them.

    Get it here: http://www.den4b.com/downloads.php?project=ReNamer

  • [...] Rename: press this to rename all files and folders in your folders (or otherwise select the ones you want). The rename function is based on finding and replacing characters using regular expressions, which gives it more power that you might originally assume (for example, its easy to add a prefix or suffix or rename all digits). I would say that the rename function is perfect for most on-the-fly mass-renaming needs, but there are times when you will probably find that you need something more powerful or versatile such as Bulk Rename Utility.
