GOM Player is a freeware player for DVDs and Video Files.

Rating: 55 Star Rating

Version tested: 2,0,9,360

  • It offers advanced features and a really slick look-and-feel
  • Comes with its own resident codecs, meaning that you WILL be able to play pretty much every format without needing to find, download, and install different codecs for different formats.
  • Also purports to have patented technology that allows you to play partially downloaded files! I haven’t tried this, but it sounds good to me.

A free alternative to: PowerDVD, WinDVD

Thanks Mr. Freeware Genius. Love the site. Finding good (and free to boot) software is a blessing. Thanks for doing the leg work up front for us lazy folk who want a one stop shop :)

I was looking at these media players and i noticed you didn’t have Songbird. It’s a pretty nice freeware app. built with the intention of becoming the firefox of media players. its very very sweet and some members of the team that made winamp are helping to develop it. Here is the link hope you enjoy it as much as I do. http://www.songbirdnest.com/

Hey thanks. I downloaded this because i found it on your site. You say you haven’t tried it so i thought i’d let you know that i have and really apreciate it. It works well, has a full set of options and codecs. Only let down is that you have to download dvd codecs to watch dvd disks or .iso files. but that only takes a minute then you’re up and running.

I love the GOM player! I was afraid it would be out of my league to understand, but its rather simple and the colors on it are just great!

this seemed to want to work but locked up my PC. Also, it somehow managed to make my internet stop working. It may have been up to something sneaky and locked up my firewall. A reboot fixed the internet problem. I then uninstalled it.

  11. rob says:

Still prefer VLC as GOM can’t natively open and play the contents of an ISO file.

  12. Tyler says:

GOM isn’t that great because it has trouble with many common formats unless you have specific software installed.

I found that The KMPlayer is a much better free Windows media player. http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/index.php
